Best Betfair trading software: Bet Angel, Geeks Toy and the alternatives

What trading software does, how Bet Angel and Geeks Toy compare, and where Gruss, BF Bot Manager and Fairbot fit, with prices and free trials.

The short answer

There's no single best Betfair trading software. Bet Angel has the most features, including automation, and a 14 day free trial. Geeks Toy is a simpler, fast trading ladder that many pre-race scalpers prefer, also with a 14 day trial. Gruss Betting Assistant is a cheaper option, and BF Bot Manager and Fairbot are built mainly for automated betting. We haven't tested them ourselves. Prices change, so check each maker's site before you buy.

What Betfair trading software does

Trading software connects to your Betfair account through Betfair's API and shows the market as a price ladder: every price in a column, with the money waiting at each one. You place, move and cancel bets with one click, which is much faster than the Betfair website.

  • One click betting on a ladder, so you can get in and out of a trade quickly.
  • Green up buttons that work out the hedge stake for you.
  • Stop losses that close a trade automatically if the price moves against you.
  • Automation in some programs, which places bets for you when your rules are met.

You don't need software to start trading. Betfair's own site and our hedging calculator are enough to learn how greening up works.

Bet Angel: the most features, with automation

Bet Angel is one of the longest running Betfair trading programs. It has a trading ladder, charts and tools for in-play football and racing, and its automation tool, Guardian, can run rules across many markets at once.

Bet Angel offers a 14 day free trial. Its buy page lists Bet Angel Professional at £29.99 for one month, £59.99 for three months and £149.99 for a year, but that page may be out of date, so check the current price before you buy.

Bet Angel suits traders who want automation or trade many markets at once. The number of features means there's more to learn.

Geeks Toy: a fast, simple trading ladder

Geeks Toy is built around a fast, clean trading ladder. It's a favourite with pre-race horse racing scalpers, with less automation than Bet Angel's Guardian. It runs on Windows only.

Geeks Toy has a 14 day free trial. It costs £15 a month or £150 a year. Check the current price on the Geeks Toy site.

Both trials are free, so the simplest way to choose is to try both on the same kind of market you plan to trade.

Gruss Betting Assistant: a cheaper option

Gruss Betting Assistant connects straight to Betfair and has a trading ladder and grid. It costs about £6 a month or £60 a year, which makes it one of the cheaper choices, and has a 30 day free trial.

BF Bot Manager and Fairbot: automated betting bots

BF Bot Manager and Fairbot are built mainly for automated betting. You set the rules, such as which races to bet on and at what prices, and the software places the bets for you.

  • BF Bot Manager: £29.95 for one month and about £120 for a year, with a 7 day free trial.
  • Fairbot: plans from $11.95 a month, with a 15 day free trial. Check the current price on Fairbot's site.

A bot follows your rules exactly. If the rules don't have an edge, a bot loses money faster than you would by hand.

Do you need trading software?

Not to learn. Software makes placing and cancelling bets faster, which matters for scalping and in-play trading, but it can't give you an edge on its own. Learn on small stakes first, and use the free trials before you pay for anything.
